学区からのメッセージ、反トランプ その２

政権が変わってから、矢継ぎ早にいろいろなニュースが流れ、

その度にどうしてなんだろうと暗い気持ちになります。

有効なビザを持った優秀な学生が出身国を理由に手錠をかけられ入国できなかったり、

今度は性転換をした生徒が望んだ性のトイレを使えなくなると言う

基本的人権を無視したようなニュース。

実際、こちらに来て感じましたが、

LGBTコミュニティーと呼ばれる性転換やゲイの人たちに対する逆風は

根深いものがあります。

ゲイで有名なサンフランシスコがこんなに近く、

こんなに沢山の人達がいるにも関わらず、

宗教的観点などから反対する人も多く、その度合いも強いです。

近隣学区の小学校の先生がレズビアンである事をカミングアウトした所、

母親たちが拒否反応を起こし、教師が学校を変わらざるを得なくなったとか

（パロアルトの学校に来たそうですよ）。

うちの子の小学校は校長先生がゲイでした。

彼はパートナーがいて、女性役。My husband and I.....ってメールに書くくらい。

とってもおしゃれで明るく、評判のいい人で、一度軽く挨拶しただけで

私の事もすぐに覚えてくれました。もちろん生徒の名前も全員覚えています。

家庭の事情で十分に朝ごはんを食べられない子供達に

いつも自分のお金で朝食を用意してあげる優しい人でした。

評判が良く１０年間校長を務めた後、

今は他州に旦那様と住んでいます。

さて、トランプ政権の新決定ですが、パロアルトの学区にいる限り適応はされません。

学区長からもメッセージがありました。

生徒は安心して自分の選択したトイレを使う事ができます。

さらに今後も男女共用のトイレを増やして行くそうです。

以下、興味のある方のために学区長からのメッセージの原文を掲載しておきます。

The first is to assure our community that both the laws of California and the policies of the Palo Alto Unified School District protect our transgender students! While the Executive Branch of the federal government - with apparent support of the U.S. Secretary of Education - rescinded a previous Executive Order, which had instructed schools to allow students to use the restrooms that match their gender identity. The new ruling leaves that decision to states and local districts, and we are not planning to make any changes. In fact, all of our schools have or will soon have gender neutral washrooms, and I am proud of our district’s leadership in supporting our transgender students. As I noted in some recent interviews, it would behoove Secretary DeVos to visit our PAUSD schools to see excellence in action – including how we include and care for EVERY child. (Who knows, maybe our award winning middle schools will get her attention!)
